Product Category Information

When you need to move serious power between a generator, distribution board and load, single pole line connectors are the industry answer. Each conductor gets its own colour-coded, keyed connector, so a complete feed is built from individual line source (female) and line drain (male) connectors rather than one bulky multi-pin plug. The result is a system that is quick to deploy, simple to fault-find and tough enough for repeated use on site.

This category covers the in-line connectors that terminate flexible cable in the field. They are the workhorses of temporary power distribution for event and staging companies, film and TV production, construction and civil projects, mining and remote sites, and anyone running portable generators or load banks. Set-screw terminations suit on-site assembly by a licensed electrician, and the keyed housings are designed to stop the wrong colours being mated together.

Our team of experienced electricians uses these connectors every week building Powersafe lead sets and distribution gear, so we can help you choose the right source or drain, colour and cable size for the job. Pair them with our Powersafe panel connectors, flexible cable per metre and generator accessories for a complete, compliant temporary power setup.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a single pole line connector?

A single pole line connector carries one conductor only, so a three-phase supply uses a separate colour-coded connector for each phase, the neutral and the earth. Line connectors are the in-line versions that terminate flexible cable, as opposed to panel connectors that mount in a distribution board or generator.

What is the difference between line source and line drain connectors?

A line source connector sits on the supply (energised) end of a lead and has recessed contacts so live parts are not exposed. A line drain connector sits on the load end and plugs into a source or a panel source. Source and drain of the same colour and system are designed to mate with each other.

Are Powersafe and Powerlock connectors interchangeable?

They are different connector families from different manufacturers, so you should only mate connectors that the manufacturer specifies as compatible. Always check that source and drain are from the same connector system and colour before connecting.

Why are single pole connectors colour coded and keyed?

Each conductor (phases, neutral and earth) is assigned a colour, and the housings are mechanically keyed so a connector of one colour cannot be plugged into a different colour. This prevents cross-connecting phases or putting a live conductor onto the earth.

In what order should single pole connectors be connected and disconnected?

Connect earth first, then neutral, then the phases, and disconnect in the reverse order with the supply isolated. Connectors should never be connected or disconnected under load unless the manufacturer specifically rates them for it.

Who can install or terminate single pole line connectors in Australia?

Terminating cable into line connectors and building leads is electrical work and must be carried out by a licensed electrician. Completed assemblies should be tested and tagged before use, and temporary installations must comply with the AS/NZS 3000 Wiring Rules.

Where are single pole line connectors used?

They are common wherever large temporary power feeds are needed: concerts and festivals, film and television sets, construction sites, mining and remote camps, generator hire, load bank testing and emergency or backup power connections.
