Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is a CEEForm extension lead?

CEEForm is a European standard connector (IEC 60309) commonly used in industrial and commercial power distribution. It offers secure, high-current connections for both single and three-phase applications. Electrotraders’ CEEForm leads are IP67 rated, making them resistant to water and dust.

What does IP67 mean?

IP67 indicates the extension lead's resistance to both solid objects and water. “6” means the product is dust-tight, and “7” means it can withstand immersion in water up to 1 metre for 30 minutes—ideal for outdoor or harsh environments like worksites and events.

Are IEC 60309 leads legal to use in Australia?

Yes. IEC 60309 connectors (CEEForm) are legal in Australia for appropriate industrial and commercial use, provided the equipment is compliant with Australian electrical safety standards and used by a licensed electrician where required.

What applications are these leads suitable for?

These leads are ideal for reefer containers, site sheds, mining equipment, generators, event lighting, industrial ovens, and portable plant setups. They’re often used in shipping ports, film production, outdoor festivals, commercial kitchens, and workshops.

Can I use a 32A CEEForm lead on a 16A supply?

No. A 32A plug will not physically connect to a 16A socket due to the keyed design of CEEForm connectors. You must match the plug and socket rating or use an appropriate adapter, ensuring compliance with electrical regulations.

Do you offer custom lengths or configurations?

Absolutely. Our in-house licensed electricians can build custom IEC 60309 extension leads to your required length, gauge, or configuration. Contact us to discuss your project needs or power distribution plans.

How are these leads tested for safety?

Every extension lead is tested and tagged in accordance with Australian workplace safety regulations using calibrated equipment. This includes insulation resistance, polarity, continuity, and visual checks.

Do you supply both single-phase and three-phase options?

Yes. We offer IEC 60309 CEEForm leads in 3-pin (single phase), 4-pin (three-phase, no neutral) and 5-pin (three-phase with neutral) variants across all common amperages: 16A, 32A, 63A, and 125A.
