Five Cable Sizes, One Connector
Matching sleeve to cable
In Phase 3's assembly guide every reduced cable size has its own sleeve: R95 for 95mm², R70 for 70mm², R50 for 50mm², R35 for 35mm² and R25 for 25mm². The sleeves shrink the S120 set screw contact's rear cable bucket, letting the set screws grip a conductor smaller than 120mm².
Building up the sleeves
In the guide's table, every reduced cable size starts from R120. The guide requires all sleeves down to the recommended size to be fitted, so a 95mm² cable takes R120 and R95, and a 25mm² cable takes R120 and all five smaller sleeves. Nested together they produce a gradual reduction span, flared ends against the insulation. Check that an R120 sleeve is available, since it starts every sequence in the guide.
Same procedure for every size
- Jacket stripped to 33mm whatever the cable size
- Sleeves slid on in sequence over the stranding
- Cable and sleeves pushed fully into the contact
- Set screws done up using a 5mm Allen bit to 10.5 Nm or above
Termination quality
The recommended assembly procedure, Phase 3 says, is essential if the set screw termination is to be satisfactory. Copper conductors only should be used with its line connectors. Phase 3 also reserves connector installation, inspection and upkeep for qualified electricians, working within local and national electrical codes. For a single cable size, the supplier also lists separate R70, R50, R35 and R25 kits.
Q: What cable sizes does the Powersafe PP01534 cover?
A: 25mm² to 95mm², in Powersafe set screw connectors.
