Source Versus Drain on a Panel

Powersafe connectors are made as sources and drains. In Phase 3's terms a source pairs a male contact with a female insulator and usually forms the live end; a drain is the reverse and usually receives the connection. The SPS0001 is the source form for panel mounting, so the part that plugs into it is a Powersafe Earth line drain.

Protected while unmated
Because a source is usually the live end, its IP2X rating counts: the connector is finger-proof when unmated. Mated, the pair is IP67. The Earth key stops line and neutral drains from entering, and the secondary lock holds a mated drain until the release key is used.
