The Powersafe SPD0001 is a green Earth panel drain: the fixed, Powerlock-compatible socket that an Earth line source plugs into. Rated 500A (T5), it terminates behind the panel on an M12 threaded post, so equipment can be wired with a standard cable lug.

The Fixed Half of the Connection

Built into the equipment
Line connectors go on cables; panel mounts go on the gear. Phase 3 describes Powersafe panel mounts as industrial sockets for generators, batteries, busbars, switchgear and power distribution boxes. The SPD0001 is the Earth drain version, keyed so that only a Powersafe Earth source connector will mate with it, with secondary locking that keeps the two coupled until someone uses the release key.

Simple, sealed installation
The connector arrives assembled. A gasket seals it against the panel, and the flange holes can alternatively be fitted with M6 threaded inserts for front or rear fixing. No special tools are required for installation.

Wiring the threaded post

• Remove the nut and washer from the M12 threaded post
• Fit the cable lug or accessory over the thread
• Refit the washer and nut, tightening to a maximum of 12–14 Nm

Looking after a drain connector
Phase 3 advises checking the front O-ring on drain connectors for degradation and applying a film of silicone grease periodically, and confirming the spring-loaded secondary locking pin moves freely.
