Description

Top of the two pole range at 40 amps.

The Tesla TMCBO240MA is the largest rated current in Tesla's two pole 6 kA RCBO series. It merges residual current and circuit breaker duty into one 36 mm module, so a heavy final subcircuit gets leakage, overload and short-circuit protection from a single device.

Key Features

  • Rated current 40 A, highest in the two pole series
  • Rated residual operating current 30 mA
  • Breaking capacity / Ics 6,000 A (6 kA)
  • Type A operating characteristic
  • 1P + N, switched neutral, 36 mm
  • Rated voltage 230/240 V AC, 50/60 Hz
  • Guards against earth fault and leakage current, short-circuit and overload
  • Terminals take rigid conductors up to 25 mm²
  • Available for both comb and busbar
  • Mechanical life 10,000 cycles, electrical life 4,000 cycles
  • IP20 rated
  • Manufactured to IEC/EN AS/NZS 61009-1

Where the 40 Amp Rating Fits

At 40 A this is the largest device in Tesla's two pole RCBO series, which runs 6, 10, 16, 20, 25, 32 and 40 A. Every rating in that series shares the same 6 kA breaking capacity, 36 mm body and Type A sensing, with only the overcurrent threshold changing.

The unit switches the neutral alongside the active, so the protected circuit is isolated on both conductors when it trips or is turned off. Its 36 mm body takes the space of two standard modules, letting per-circuit leakage protection be added one subcircuit at a time instead of relying on a single shared upstream RCD.

Three Protective Duties in One Body

Tesla specifies this device against earth fault and leakage current, short-circuit and overload, and lists complementary protection against direct contact by the human body. The practical result is a unit that safeguards personal safety, helps prevent electrical fires, and keeps connected equipment from being damaged by fault conditions.

Sensing follows the Type A operating characteristic. AS/NZS 61009-1 specifies Type A devices to respond to sinusoidal AC residual currents and to pulsating DC residual currents. The 30 mA trip threshold is the sensitivity used for personal protection, and the datasheet lists the series in both 10 mA and 30 mA.

Terminals, Busbars and Service Life

A breaking capacity and Ics of 6,000 A means the device is rated to interrupt a 6 kA fault and stay serviceable afterwards, so it is rated for installations where prospective fault current does not exceed 6 kA. Terminals accept rigid conductors up to 25 mm², the same capacity Tesla specifies across the whole two pole series.

The RCBO is available for use with both comb and busbar, keeping multi-device board builds neat and repeatable. IP20 places it inside an enclosed switchboard or distribution board rather than an exposed position, and a mechanical life of 10,000 cycles with an electrical life of 4,000 cycles suits long service in power distribution systems across commercial and industrial installations.

What is the difference between this Tesla RCBO and a plain RCD?
An RCD only detects earth leakage. This RCBO adds overload and short-circuit protection, so one 36 mm device replaces both a safety switch and a circuit breaker on the same subcircuit.

Is the Tesla TMCBO240MA a two pole or a four pole device?
It is a two pole unit configured as 1P + N with a switched neutral, 36 mm wide. Tesla builds a separate four pole 3P + N version of the same 6 kA RCBO series for three phase circuits.

What size cable can the Tesla TMCBO240MA terminate?
The terminals accept rigid conductors up to 25 mm², and the device can also be fed from a comb or busbar.
