Description

Thirty-two amps. The highest-rated 1P RCBO. EV fast chargers covered.

The Tesla RCBO6K32 is a Single Pole 32A 6kA 30mA Type A RCBO built to AS/NZS 61009.1. It combines residual current (earth leakage) and overcurrent (circuit breaker) protection in a single 1P+N DIN rail device — the highest-rated single-pole RCBO in the Tesla range, covering 7.2kW EV fast charger circuits, workshop equipment requiring mandatory RCD protection, and high-capacity single-phase sub-main circuits.

  • 1P+N / 32A / 6kA breaking capacity
  • 30mA residual current trip — personal protection threshold
  • Type A — detects sinusoidal and pulsating DC residual currents
  • C Curve overcurrent trip — general-purpose, handles moderate inrush
  • 240V AC / 50-60Hz
  • DIN rail mount — 1 module width, 18mm, 35mm rail
  • Pillar clamp terminal — rigid conductor up to 10mm²
  • IP20 rated for enclosed switchboard installation
  • AS/NZS 61009.1 — approval number SGS-210384-EA
  • Mechanical life: 10,000 cycles | Electrical life: 4,000 cycles
  • Range: available 10A, 16A, 20A, 25A, 32A — highest rating in range

The 7.2kW EV Charger RCBO — Maximum Single-Phase Protection

The 32A Type A RCBO is the correct device for a 7.2kW single-phase EV fast charger — drawing approximately 32A continuous, this is the ceiling of the single-phase residential charging market and the ceiling of the Tesla 1P RCBO range. EV onboard charger electronics generate pulsating DC fault currents that a Type AC RCBO won't detect. The RCBO6K32 delivers 32A overcurrent protection and Type A 30mA earth leakage in a single 18mm module — no separate MCB and RCD required. Each circuit is independently protected; a trip on the EV charger circuit doesn't affect other circuits on the board.

Workshop Equipment and High-Capacity Circuits

Beyond EV chargers, the 32A rating covers single-phase workshop air compressors, high-draw bench tools, and equipment circuits where AS/NZS 3000 mandates RCD protection and the load exceeds 25A. It also serves as a sub-main RCBO on high-current single-phase feeds where combined earth leakage and overcurrent protection is required in one device. The Type A characteristic covers variable-frequency drive equipment as well as standard resistive and inductive loads.

Termination and Installation

Clips straight onto 35mm DIN rail. The pillar clamp terminal accepts rigid conductors up to 10mm² — line and load can be wired from either top or bottom terminals. Lockable toggle. At 18mm wide (1 module), it occupies the same footprint as a single MCB. IP20 is appropriate for any enclosed switchboard or distribution enclosure. Operating temperature -5°C to 55°C.

Q: Is the RCBO6K32 the correct RCBO for a 7.2kW single-phase EV charger?
A: Yes — a 7.2kW single-phase EV charger draws approximately 32A at full output, making the RCBO6K32 the correct rating. It is Type A, covering the pulsating DC fault currents generated by EV onboard charger electronics. Always confirm with the charger manufacturer's installation guide and AS/NZS 3000 requirements. Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician.

Q: Is the Tesla RCBO6K32 approved for use in Australian switchboards?
A: Yes. The RCBO6K32 is built to AS/NZS 61009.1 with Australian approval number SGS-210384-EA, tested and listed for compliance with 2019 additional RCBO testing requirements. It is suitable for use in compliant Australian residential, commercial, and light industrial switchboard installations.

Q: What is the difference between the RCBO6K32 and RCBO6K25?
A: Both are Tesla RCBO6K range 1P+N, 6kA, 30mA, Type A RCBOs with identical construction, approval, and 18mm footprint. The RCBO6K32 is rated 32A — suited to 7.2kW EV fast chargers and high-draw workshop circuits. The RCBO6K25 is rated 25A — suited to EV chargers up to approximately 6kW and larger air conditioning circuits. Choose based on the circuit load and cable sizing.
