Description
Two protections. One 18mm module.
Higher-draw single-phase circuits still need earth leakage protection, and switchboard space is rarely there for a separate RCD and breaker. The Tesla RCDM125-4.5kA pairs 25 amp overcurrent protection with 30 mA Type A residual current detection inside one 18mm module.

Why it Matters
Board space at 25 amps
A 25 amp final subcircuit protected by a separate RCD and MCB pair consumes at least two module positions, and that penalty repeats every time the pairing is used across a board. This RCBO does both jobs inside 18mm. On a retrofit where every position is already accounted for, that difference often decides whether the upgrade proceeds on the existing enclosure or the whole board has to be swapped out. It also keeps the protection scheme legible: one module, one circuit, one device to identify when someone else opens the board years later.
Type A detection at 30 mA
Type A classification means the residual current element responds to leakage that carries a pulsating DC component, not only to clean sinusoidal AC. Loads built around switch-mode power supplies and electronic speed control can produce exactly that waveform, and a Type AC device is not classified for it. The 30 mA residual rated current is the sensitivity level associated with personal protection rather than equipment protection alone, and it is the figure most Australian final subcircuit specifications are written around.
Fault isolation and fault finding
Because protection sits on the individual circuit rather than upstream of a whole group, a fault takes out only the affected load. Everything else on the board stays live, which matters when the board also feeds refrigeration, security or process equipment that should not drop out for an unrelated trip. The On/Off indicator makes the tripped module obvious on inspection, so the search starts at the right position instead of by working through the board by elimination.
Rated for Australian installations
The unit is built to 240V AC at 50/60Hz, complies with AS/NZS 61009.1:2015, carries SAA approval and is ESV compliant. It mounts on standard 35mm DIN rail in a 1P+N arrangement, so it drops straight into conventional Australian distribution boards, load centres and enclosures without adapters or rail changes. Boxes of 10 and cartons of 100 suit fit-outs and multi-board jobs where the same rating is repeated across a run.
Does the Tesla RCDM125-4.5kA provide both overload and earth leakage protection?
Yes. It is an RCBO, so a single device combines MCB overcurrent protection rated at 25 amps with RCD residual current detection at 30 mA, with a 4.5 kA breaking capacity.
What does the Type A rating on this RCBO mean?
Type A means the RCD element is classified to detect both alternating residual currents and pulsating DC residual currents, which is broader coverage than a Type AC device provides.
How much space does the RCDM125-4.5kA take in a switchboard?
It occupies a single 18mm module position and mounts on standard 35mm DIN rail in a 1P+N configuration, so it fits the same slot a conventional single module device would use.
