Why It Matters

Switched neutral, not just a switched active

A switched neutral device isolates both conductors when it operates. Working on a circuit downstream, an electrician gets true isolation from a single device rather than having to hunt for a separate neutral link. A Type AC device can be blinded by a pulsating DC component and miss a genuine fault. Where a shared residual current device protects a group of circuits, a single earth leakage fault takes every one of them out.
