Why Four Poles at 63 Amps

A four pole RCD switches and monitors three actives and the neutral as one set. It compares the current leaving the circuit against the current returning, and opens all four poles together when the difference exceeds the trip threshold. Type A classification means the sensing element answers to sinusoidal AC residual current and to pulsating DC residual current, as defined under AS/NZS 61008-1. The 30 mA figure is the sensitivity level specified for additional protection in Australian installations. The 63 A figure is the rated current the device carries, and the rated voltage is 415 V.

Board Space and Mounting

The unit clips to DIN rail and occupies four modules at 72 mm modular spacing. Body dimensions are 81 mm x 72 mm x 75 mm, so the 72 mm figure is the width the device consumes along the rail. Two things worth confirming before you order:

Leakage Protection, Not Overcurrent

This is a residual current device. It disconnects on earth leakage, and it does not provide overload or short-circuit protection for the circuits below it. Those circuits still need their own overcurrent protection. The 6 kA rating is a conditional rated short-circuit current, so the withstand figure is achieved in combination with a suitably rated upstream protective device rather than by the RCD alone. Size that upstream device before you commit to the board layout, because the 6 kA figure is not a standalone breaking capacity.
