Why Single Module Width Matters

A conventional combination RCD/MCB consumes two module widths. This device performs the same duty in one. On a board already carrying a main switch, neutral links and a full complement of final subcircuits, halving the footprint per protected circuit is often the difference between fitting the work into the existing enclosure and specifying a larger board.

The fly lead arrangement keeps the neutral connection off the busbar. The device seats on a standard chassis and the neutral terminates conventionally, so no dedicated busbar position is consumed.

Type A Sensing and 10kA Fault Levels

A Type A operating characteristic responds to both sinusoidal AC residual currents and pulsating DC residual currents. That distinction matters wherever electronic loads sit downstream, because switch mode power supplies and electronic drivers can produce residual current waveforms that a Type AC device is not designed to detect.

The 10kA rated breaking capacity addresses installations where the prospective short circuit current at the board exceeds the lower breaking capacities more commonly specified for domestic work. Proximity to the supply transformer is the usual driver, and the higher rating removes any question about the device clearing the worst credible fault at that board.

Choosing 32 Amps in This Range

At 32 amps this sits at the top of the single module range, which the same datasheet publishes at 10, 16, 20, 25 and 32 amps. Rating selection follows the design current of the circuit and the current carrying capacity of the cable, not the convenience of the load.

The C curve characteristic is the general purpose choice. It tolerates the moderate inrush typical of mixed circuits without nuisance tripping, while still clearing a genuine short circuit promptly. Where a load draws heavy starting current, a D curve device is the correct selection instead.

Termination and Installation Notes

Terminals are pillar type and accept conductors up to 25mm², which comfortably covers the cable sizes associated with a 32 amp final subcircuit. The datasheet specifies 2.5Nm for the screw connectors. Torquing to that figure matters, since an under-tightened termination is a heating problem rather than an immediate fault and will not announce itself at commissioning.

The device is IP20 rated, which is an enclosed switchboard rating rather than an exposed or weather-facing one.
