Description

Earth leakage and overload protection in one module.

The Tesla RCBO10K25TA combines a 25 A C curve circuit breaker with a 30 mA Type A residual current device in a single module. It carries a full 10 kA breaking capacity, so one device covers overload, short circuit and earth leakage duty on boards where fault levels run high.

Key Features

  • Rated residual operating current 30 mA
  • Type A residual operating characteristic
  • Breaking capacity 10 kA
  • 1P+N configuration occupying a single module
  • Rated voltage AC 230/240 V at 50/60 Hz
  • Supplied with fly leads
  • Pillar type terminals accepting 25 mm2 cable
  • Screw connector torque 2.5 Nm
  • IP20 enclosure rating

Why It Matters

Two protective functions, one module of board space

Board space is the constraint on most retrofits. An RCBO does the work of a circuit breaker and a residual current device, and this one does it in a single module rather than two. Each final subcircuit gets its own earth leakage protection, so a fault drops that circuit alone rather than everything downstream of a shared RCD.

Fly leads and pillar type terminals rated to 25 mm2 keep the terminations straightforward, and 2.5 Nm is the torque figure to set on the driver. The IP20 rating suits the enclosed board environment these sit in.

Type A is the residual characteristic modern loads call for

Type A devices respond to both sinusoidal AC residual current and pulsating DC residual current. That second category is what electronic loads produce: variable speed drives, LED drivers, switch mode power supplies, inverters and appliance electronics. A Type AC device can be blinded by a pulsating DC component and fail to see a genuine fault. Specifying Type A removes that gap. The 25 A overcurrent side sits behind a C curve, which tolerates the inrush of general power and lighting loads without nuisance tripping.

10 kA where 6 kA does not go far enough

Prospective fault current rises the closer a board sits to the supply transformer. Distribution boards on large commercial sites, boards fed by short heavy submains and installations with substantial supply capacity can all exceed what a 6 kA device is rated to interrupt. Tesla builds this range to AS/NZS 61009.1 for household and commercial electrical distribution systems, and the 10 kA rating gives headroom in those positions rather than leaving the device at the edge of its capability. A device that cannot clear the available fault energy is a hazard rather than a protection.

Is the Tesla RCBO10K25TA a Type A or Type AC RCBO?
It is a Type A device. The residual operating characteristic is Type A, so it detects pulsating DC residual current as well as sinusoidal AC residual current, which is what electronic loads such as drives, LED drivers and switch mode supplies generate. The magnetic tripping characteristic is a C curve and the residual sensitivity is 30 mA.

How much switchboard space does this RCBO take up?
One module. It is a 1P+N device built into a single module width, so it protects an active and neutral pair in the same space a plain single pole circuit breaker would occupy. That suits boards with limited spare ways.

What size cable can the terminals accept?
The pillar type terminals take cable up to 25 mm2 and the device is supplied with fly leads. Tighten screw connectors to 2.5 Nm. Rated voltage is AC 230/240 V at 50/60 Hz.
