Description
Fifty amps of combined three-phase protection.
The Tesla LNL35C50 sits near the upper end of the LNL35 range. It handles 50 amps across three active poles on a C curve while an electronic Type A residual element watches the same circuit for earth leakage, all inside one 3P+N body with a 10kA breaking capacity.
Key Features
- 50 A rated current, C tripping curve
- 10kA breaking capacity
- 3P+N (Switched), Type A residual current
- Electronic operating type
- 400/415V AC, 50/60Hz
- 2000A rated residual making and breaking capacity
- Energy limiting class 3
- 10,000 electrical and 30,000 mechanical operations
- 80cm neutral flying lead
- Terminals accept cables up to 25mm2
- Mounts on 35mm DIN rail
- 54mm deep against a more common 68mm

Where the 50 Amp Rating Sits
Tesla builds the LNL35 across eight ratings, and this is the second largest of them. That places it on the heavier three-phase circuits in a board rather than the general final subcircuits further down the rail. The C curve governs how the overcurrent element distinguishes a brief inrush from a sustained overload.
Terminal capacity is the figure worth checking at this rating. Tesla publishes it as cables up to 25mm2 across the range, and at the top of the range the conductor becomes a larger part of the installation decision than it is on a small circuit. The same 25mm2 ceiling applies whichever rating you fit.
Earth Leakage Handled Electronically
The residual element is published as electronic and classed as Type A. Under AS/NZS 61009-1 a Type A device answers to sinusoidal AC residual current and to pulsating DC residual current, so it covers loads whose front end rectifies the supply as well as conventional ones. The rated residual making and breaking capacity is published as 2000A, a separate figure from the 10kA short circuit rating.
Because overcurrent and residual protection share one enclosure, a fault on either side takes out the same circuit rather than leaving part of it energised through a separate device. It also removes one of the two units that would otherwise compete for rail space on a busy board, along with the wiring between them.
Fitting It Into the Panel
The LNL35 body measures 54mm deep where 68mm is the more usual figure, which Tesla positions as the reason the range suits any distribution panel. The neutral is not a terminal but an 80cm flying lead, so it reaches a neutral bar placed anywhere convenient in the enclosure.
Mounting is on standard 35mm DIN rail, so the unit drops into a board alongside the rest of the protective devices. Energy limiting class is published as 3, which describes the let-through energy reaching the circuit while a fault is cleared. Endurance is published as 10,000 electrical and 30,000 mechanical operations. Units are supplied singly in an outer of 20.
Q: What size cable will the Tesla LNL35C50 terminals accept?
A: Tesla publishes terminal capacity as cables up to 25mm2. That figure applies across the whole LNL35 range, so it holds at this rating as well as the smaller ones.
Q: Is the LNL35 C50 a circuit breaker or a safety switch?
A: Both. It is an RCBO, meaning one unit carries C curve overcurrent protection and Type A residual current protection together on the same three-phase circuit.
Q: What fault level is the Tesla LNL35C50 rated to?
A: It has a 10kA breaking capacity, which suits switchboard positions where prospective fault current exceeds what a lower-rated device is permitted to interrupt.
