Description
Three-phase protection with a 10kA backbone.
The Tesla LNL35C20 combines C curve overcurrent protection with Type A residual current sensing in a single 3P+N device rated at 20 amps. It carries a 10kA breaking capacity, so it stays within its rating on boards positioned close to the supply transformer where prospective fault current runs high.
Key Features
- 20 A rated current, C tripping curve

One Device Covering Two Duties
An RCBO does the work of a circuit breaker and a residual current device together. The C curve element watches for overload and short circuit across the three active poles. The residual element watches for current leaking to earth. Fitting one device instead of two frees space on the rail and removes the wiring between them, which also removes a set of terminations that could work loose.
The residual side is Type A. That class responds to sinusoidal AC residual current and to pulsating DC residual current, which is the behaviour AS/NZS 61009-1 defines for the type. Loads with rectified front ends are the usual reason an installation calls for Type A rather than the older AC-only class. Tesla publishes the operating type as electronic.
Why the 10kA Rating Earns Its Place
Breaking capacity describes the largest fault current a device can interrupt and stay serviceable. The further up the installation a board sits, the higher the prospective fault current at that point, and the higher the breaking capacity the protective devices need. At 10kA this unit is specified for positions where a lower-rated device would be outside its limit.
Energy limiting class is a separate figure and describes how much let-through energy reaches the circuit while the device clears a fault. Tesla publishes the LNL35 at class 3. The rated residual making and breaking capacity is 2000A.
Sized for Crowded Boards
Tesla publishes the depth of the LNL35 body as 54mm where a more common figure is 68mm. On a distribution panel with a shallow door or a tight escutcheon, that difference decides whether a board closes. The neutral arrives as an 80cm flying lead rather than a fixed terminal, so the neutral bar can sit wherever the board layout puts it instead of dictating where the device goes.
Terminals take cables up to 25mm2, and the device clips to standard 35mm DIN rail. Endurance is published at 10,000 electrical and 30,000 mechanical operations. Units ship singly, with an outer of 20.
Q: Will the Tesla LNL35C20 protect a three-phase circuit?
A: Yes. It is a 3P+N device published as 3P+N (Switched), rated 400/415V AC at 50/60Hz, so it is built for three-phase final subcircuits rated at 20 amps.
Q: What residual current type does the LNL35 C20 use?
A: Type A, as published on the Tesla data sheet. Type A responds to AC and pulsating DC residual current under AS/NZS 61009-1, and the LNL35 operating type is electronic.
Q: How does the LNL35C20 mount in a switchboard?
A: It mounts on 35mm DIN rail. The body is 54mm deep, and the neutral is an 80cm flying lead rather than a fixed terminal, so it suits shallow panels.
