Description

32 A D curve at 10 kA, single module.

The Hager ADD232B pairs a D curve tripping characteristic with a high 10 kA breaking capacity for a 32 A final circuit, in one 17.8 mm module. It suits a larger high-inrush load on a board where the prospective fault current runs above 6 kA.

Key Features

  • Hager ADD232B single pole RCBO, 1 module (17.8 mm) wide
  • 32 A rated current, D curve tripping characteristic
  • 30 mA rated residual operating current, Type A
  • 10 kA rated short circuit breaking capacity (Icn, IEC 60898-1)
  • 230 - 240 V AC rated operational voltage, 50 - 60 Hz
  • Rated impulse withstand voltage 4 kV
  • Screw terminal top, BIconnect bottom connection
  • Accepts 1 - 25 mm² solid or 1 - 16 mm² flexible conductors
  • Mounts on 35 mm DIN rail, IP20 rated
  • 10,000 mechanical operations, 2,000 electrical cycles
  • Power dissipation 9.90 W at rated current
  • Manufactured to IEC 60898-1, RoHS conform

D Curve at High Current and High Fault Level

This device meets three demands together: 32 A capacity, a D curve, and 10 kA breaking capacity. The D curve tolerates inrush currents of roughly 10 to 20 times rated current before magnetic tripping, so it rides out the start-up surge from motors, transformers, welders and large switch-mode supplies that would nuisance-trip a C curve device. The 10 kA breaking capacity, against the common 6 kA, lets it clear a short circuit safely where the assessed fault current at the board is high.

32 A for Larger Circuits

The 32 A rating suits higher-current final subcircuits: dedicated appliance and motor feeds, larger power circuits and sub-boards. It lands in one 17.8 mm module that replaces a separate MCB and RCD. Height is 115 mm and depth 70 mm, fitting standard flush and surface switchboards.

Type A Earth Leakage Sensing

As a Type A RCBO the ADD232B detects both sinusoidal AC earth leakage and pulsating DC earth leakage, unlike Type AC which detects only the AC component. With inverters, variable speed drives and switch mode supplies now common on Australian final circuits, Type A is the practical baseline. It trips at a rated residual current of 30 mA.

Rated for Australian Conditions

Rated operational voltage is 230 - 240 V at 50 - 60 Hz, matching the Australian supply. Hager publishes a full derating curve: 32 A at 30 °C ambient, 30.30 A at 40 °C and 26.90 A at 60 °C, useful where meter boxes run hot. Storage and transport range is -40 to 70 °C, and the device is rated to 2000 m altitude.

Q: What is the difference between the Hager ADD232B and the ADC232B?
A: Both are 32A 1 pole 10kA 30mA Type A RCBOs. The ADD232B has a D curve for high-inrush loads like motors and transformers, while the ADC232B has a C curve for general circuits. The D curve resists nuisance tripping on start-up surges.

Q: Why choose a 10 kA RCBO over a 6 kA one?
A: Breaking capacity is the maximum fault current the device can safely interrupt. Boards closer to the supply see higher prospective fault current, so where the assessed fault level exceeds 6 kA, a 10 kA device like the ADD232B is required.

Q: Is the Hager ADD232B single pole or double pole?
A: It is a 1 pole device with one protected pole in a single 17.8 mm module, protecting the active conductor with combined overload, short circuit and 30 mA earth leakage protection.
