Description

Overcurrent and earth-leakage protection in one module.

The Hager ADC220B is a 20A single-pole RCBO (residual current breaker with overcurrent protection) combining C-curve overload and short-circuit protection with 30mA Type A earth-leakage protection in a compact 1-module DIN rail device.

Key Features

  • Rated current: 20A, single pole (1P)
  • C tripping curve (5–10x In)
  • 10kA breaking capacity (Icn) to IEC 60898-1
  • 30mA residual current, Type A (detects AC and pulsating DC)
  • Rated voltage 230–240V AC; insulation voltage 250V
  • Compact 1-module width (17.8mm) DIN rail mount
  • Accepts conductors 1–25mm² rigid, 1–16mm² flexible
  • IP20; rated impulse withstand 4000V; energy limiting class 3

Why it Matters

Two protections in a single device.
The ADC220B is an RCBO – a residual current breaker with overcurrent protection – combining the functions of an MCB and an RCD in one module. It protects a circuit against overload and short circuit and, at the same time, disconnects on an earth-leakage fault of 30mA or more, guarding against electric shock. Combining both roles in one 1-module device saves board space compared with separate MCB and RCD components.

C curve and Type A leakage detection.
The C tripping characteristic trips on short circuit at 5 to 10 times rated current, the general-purpose curve suited to the mixed resistive and moderately inductive loads on larger power sub-circuits and higher-draw appliance feeds – the typical duty for a 20A rating. Its Type A residual sensing detects both AC and pulsating DC earth-leakage currents, covering modern electronic loads, and its 10kA breaking capacity handles the fault levels found in commercial and industrial switchboards.

Built for Australian switchboards.
At one module (17.8mm) wide, 115mm high and 70mm deep, the ADC220B clips onto standard 35mm DIN rail. Terminals take rigid conductors up to 25mm², and it is rated IP20 with a 4kV impulse withstand and energy limiting class 3. It complies with AS/NZS 61009 for RCBOs and suits final circuits – power points, appliance and equipment feeds – requiring combined overcurrent and earth-leakage protection.

Q: What is an RCBO and how is the ADC220B different from an MCB?
An RCBO combines an MCB and an RCD in one device: it protects against overload and short circuit like an MCB, and also trips on earth leakage (30mA here) to guard against electric shock – protection a plain MCB does not provide.

Q: What is the difference between the ADC220B (10kA) and a 6kA RCBO?
10kA is the rated short-circuit breaking capacity, suited to higher-fault commercial and industrial boards; a 6kA RCBO such as the Hager ADC220T is used where fault levels are lower.

Q: What does Type A mean on the ADC220B?
Type A residual current detection responds to both AC and pulsating DC earth-leakage currents, covering electronic loads that a basic Type AC device may not detect.
