The SAL MR16/7W/TC is a 6W non-dimmable LED MR16 lamp with selectable colour temperature (3000K / 4000K / 6000K), a shockproof frosted polycarbonate lens, die-cast aluminium body, GU5.3 bi-pin base, and a 38° spot beam — designed as a direct LED replacement for traditional 50W halogen MR16 lamps in Australian residential and commercial recessed downlight fittings, track lighting, and display lighting applications. Operating on 12V AC or DC, the MR16/7W/TC requires a separate 12V electronic LED transformer or driver (not included) and is rated to a maximum ambient temperature of 26°C (TA26). Up to 600 lm at 4000K from a compact 50mm x 55mm form factor — a direct size and base match for standard MR16/GU5.3 halogen lamp fittings.

Why the SAL MINl60 Transformer — and Why Iron Core Won't Do

MR16 LED lamps have a very different electrical load characteristic compared to halogen lamps. Traditional iron core (magnetic) transformers were designed for the resistive load of halogen lamps and do not perform correctly with the electronic load of LED drivers — causing flicker, buzzing, reduced output, or driver damage. The SAL MINl60 is a dedicated 12V electronic LED transformer designed to work correctly with SAL MR16 LED lamps. If replacing halogen MR16 lamps in an existing fitting with an iron core transformer, the transformer must also be replaced with a compatible electronic LED transformer before installing the LED lamp. Electronic (switch-mode) transformers already installed may be compatible — confirm with your electrician.

A selector switch on the base sets the colour temperature before installation with power off: 3000K Warm White for a warm, inviting ambience in residential living areas, dining rooms, hospitality venues, and retail where warm accent lighting is preferred; 4000K Cool White for kitchens, bathrooms, offices, and commercial spaces where neutral, crisp white light is preferred; and 6000K Daylight for retail display lighting, commercial offices, and applications where maximum colour clarity is required.

Q: Can I use my existing halogen transformer with this LED lamp?
A: No — traditional iron core (magnetic) transformers are not compatible with the MR16/7W/TC. Q: What is the difference between MR16/5W/TC and MR16/7W/TC?
A: Both are SAL LED MR16 lamps with selectable CCT (3000K/4000K/6000K), GU5.3 bi-pin base, 38° beam, non-dimmable, IP20, and 50mm x 55mm dimensions. Q: What is TA26 and why does it matter?
A: TA26 means the lamp is rated for ambient temperatures up to 26°C. In enclosed or insulated ceiling cavities where heat can accumulate, the ambient temperature around the lamp may exceed 26°C, reducing lamp life or causing thermal shutdown. Ensure adequate ventilation around the fitting and confirm the ceiling cavity temperature is within the TA26 rating.
