The Red Smoke R240RC is a 240V hard-wired photoelectric smoke alarm with a sealed rechargeable lithium battery backup. The battery recharges from the mains and is never replaced over the life of the alarm, so there are no backup batteries to buy and no annual changes – just continuous protection, including through a power outage.

No Backup Batteries to Buy

Unlike a mains alarm with a replaceable 9V backup, the R240RC uses a sealed rechargeable lithium battery that tops up from the mains and lasts the life of the alarm. There is nothing to swap out, which suits hard-to-reach ceilings and rental portfolios where battery maintenance across many alarms adds up. A green LED confirms mains is on, and the red LED signals warning, fault, low-battery and memory status.

Interconnect a Whole Home

Hard-wire the alarms together over up to 150m so they all sound as one when smoke is detected. Where running interconnect cable is not practical, fitting an RWB or RWB2 wireless base lets the alarms link by radio instead, for up to 40 interconnected devices. With an RWB2 base, the Red Smoke wireless controller (RACP) can also connect to the alarm.

Built for Compliance

The R240RC is certified to AS 3786:2014+A1:2015+A2:2018 and listed by CSIRO ActivFire (certificate afp-3640). Interconnected photoelectric alarms are central to Queensland's domestic smoke alarm legislation, which requires them in all bedrooms, connecting hallways and on each storey of leased and sold dwellings, and this alarm is approved for QLD Government Housing installation. For best performance and compliance, installation should be carried out by a licensed electrician.
