The Red Smoke RRURF12 is a stand-alone wireless relay unit that lets a smoke alarm switch external equipment. It receives fire and fault signals over RF, then drives two independent volt free relays rated 250V AC, 5A resistive.

Two Relays, Two Separate Jobs

The RRURF12 carries two relays that operate independently of each other. The terminal marked FIRE switches when a paired alarm in the RF network sends a fire, test or silence signal. The terminal marked FAULT switches when the RF network reports a low battery or fault. An alarm event and a maintenance warning can therefore drive completely different devices. The FIRE relay can be set to Pulse, holding for five seconds, or Continuous, latching until a cancel signal arrives. The FAULT relay runs in Continuous mode only.

Powered by Low Voltage DC

This unit takes a 12-30V DC supply rather than 240V mains. Red Smoke advises it can be run from alternative energy sources such as solar, wind or UPS inverters, provided total harmonic distortion stays below 5 per cent. The relay contacts are electrically isolated from the supply and rated to 250V AC, 5A resistive, so the switched load does not have to share the same circuit. For resistive loads above 5 A, use the relay to drive a contactor coil and let the contactor carry the load. The unit must not be powered from a dimmer circuit and must not be earthed.

Installation and Limitations

The RRURF12 surface mounts to a wall or ceiling with screws and accepts cable or conduit through the moulded entries, including a rear entry knockout. A pairing button handles RF setup and an internal pin cap selects the FIRE relay mode before power up. Interconnection is wireless only, so position the unit within RF range of the alarms it needs to hear. The unit is for indoor use, is not waterproof, and Red Smoke rates it for single occupancy private dwellings only. Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician in line with local wiring rules.
