Why it Matters

Isolation, Not Overcurrent Protection
A main switch is a switch-disconnector built to IEC 60947-3, a different standard to the one covering circuit breakers. Its job is to isolate the supply cleanly and visibly, not to trip on overload or short circuit. That protection role belongs to the circuit breakers downstream. Understanding the split matters when specifying a board: the main switch gives a defined point of isolation for safe work, and the MCBs handle fault current. Specifying one in place of the other is a common and avoidable mistake.

Found Fast in an Emergency
Tesla builds the TMS range with a highly visible ON/OFF toggle so the switch can be located quickly when power needs to be cut in a hurry. On a busy board full of similar-looking modules, the red front lever is the control someone will look for under pressure. That visibility is a practical safety feature rather than styling, and it is the reason main switches are given a distinct appearance from the protective devices beside them.

Terminals and Wiring
Insulated terminals rated IP20 on the front side reduce the risk of accidental contact with live parts during work inside the enclosure. Tunnel terminals accept connections both upstream and downstream, which gives flexibility in how the board is fed and where the switch sits in the wiring sequence. On a retrofit that flexibility can save re-routing the incoming supply.

A Standard Module on the Rail
At 18mm modular spacing the single pole body occupies one standard module position on DIN rail, and the three pole version of the same range is 54mm, which confirms the per-pole figure. Board layout stays predictable and the switch drops into an existing enclosure without special provision. Worth noting when planning alongside larger devices: a 100A MCB in the Tesla range is 27mm per pole, so the isolator is the more compact of the two.

10kA Conditioned Short-Circuit Rating
The conditioned rated short-circuit current of 10kA describes what the switch can withstand when protected by a suitable upstream device. It is a withstand figure, not a breaking capacity, which reflects the switch's role as an isolator working alongside protective devices rather than in place of them. The distinction matters when comparing datasheets, because the same 10kA number means something different on a circuit breaker.

Does this main switch provide overload protection?
No. It is a switch-disconnector to IEC 60947-3 for isolation only. Overload and short circuit protection is provided by circuit breakers on the board.

What voltage is the TMS1P100 rated for?
The single pole version is rated 240/415V. The three pole version in the same range is rated 415V.

How much DIN rail space does it need?
The single pole version has 18mm modular spacing, which is one standard module position. The three pole version is 54mm.
