A Feature Light That Fits an Existing Point

Surface-mounted oysters solve a problem their recessed cousins create. Most bedroom and hallway ceilings already have their one wiring point. This fitting wires straight to it and screws to the plasterboard, so a batten holder or a tired old oyster becomes a feature piece in one visit. Nothing gets cut, nothing needs a cavity above it, and the 60mm profile keeps the whole thing tight to the ceiling rather than hanging into the room. Where the Galaxy Effect Comes From

The faceted crystal diffuser is doing two jobs at once. Looking at it directly you get the sparkle of cut crystal rather than the flat wash of an opal cover. Two Power Levels, Three Whites, One Switch

Two selectors do the work. Colour temperature steps between warm 3000K, neutral 4000K and cool 6000K, and a separate power setting runs the fitting at either half output or full. That is a two-step selection rather than a wall dimmer, so treat it as a preset chosen to suit the room rather than a control you sweep during the evening. Warm at half power suits a bedroom; cool at full output suits a laundry or a hallway that needs to be genuinely bright. Note the IP20 rating, which keeps this to dry indoor areas only, and install to AS/NZS 3000.

Does the Pro-Vision PVCL-308 need a ceiling cut-out?
No. It is a surface-mounted oyster that wires directly to an existing ceiling point and fixes to the plasterboard. There is nothing to cut and no cavity depth required above it, which is what makes it a straight swap for an older oyster or a batten holder.

Can this ceiling light be run on a wall dimmer?
Pro-Vision specifies a two-step power setting of 50 percent or 100 percent, not a continuous dimming range, and publishes no dimmer compatibility for the model. Treat the power setting as a preset rather than a dimmer, and do not assume a wall dimmer will work with it.

Is the PVCL-308 suitable for a bathroom or an outdoor area?
No. It carries an IP20 rating, which offers no protection against water. Keep it to dry indoor spaces such as bedrooms, hallways, living areas and offices, and follow the AS/NZS 3000 zone rules for anywhere near a bath or shower.
