Description

Fifty amp two pole protection, 6 kA rated.

Higher up a final circuit range the cable gets heavier, and breaking both conductors together matters more. The Tesla MCB2P50 is a two pole 50 amp C curve miniature circuit breaker rated at 6 kA, on the HPC2 series, with pillar terminals to 25 mm², two DIN modules wide, IP20 and to IEC/EN 60898.

Key Features

  • 50 A rated current, two pole
  • 6 kA (6000 A) breaking capacity

  • Bi-metal thermal element for overload tripping
  • Overload and short-circuit protection
  • Pillar terminal with clamp
  • Rigid conductor capacity up to 25 mm²
  • Two module DIN rail width
  • 50/60 Hz rated frequency
  • IP20 rated
  • Designed to IEC/EN 60898, approval V08030

Breaking Both Conductors Together

A two pole breaker acts on both conductors of the circuit through one mechanism. On a trip, or when the toggle is thrown by hand, the poles open at the same instant, leaving nothing energised behind the device.

That behaviour is why two pole devices get specified where a circuit has to be positively isolated before work starts, or where a fault should take both conductors out rather than one.

Where 50 Amps Sits in the HPC2 Range

Tesla builds the HPC2 two pole range from 10 A to 63 A, so 50 A is the second largest frame in it. Rated current changes across that range but the protection does not: every device carries the same 6 kA breaking capacity and the same 25 mm² terminal capacity, so stepping up in amps does not step down in fault performance. Rated frequency is 50/60 Hz right across the range.

The C curve tripping characteristic sits between B and D. It rides through the brief inrush many loads draw at switch-on, while still clearing a sustained overload or a short circuit. The bi-metal thermal element handles the overload side, bending in proportion to the current so a small overload trips slowly and a heavy one trips fast.

Terminals, Mounting and Service Life

Pillar terminals with a clamp accept rigid conductor up to 25 mm². At 50 amps that capacity is doing real work, because the conductor arriving at the breaker is among the heaviest a modular device will land, and it goes straight in without an interposing connection. The clamp presses on the conductor rather than the screw thread, keeping contact pressure even.

The body occupies two modules on standard DIN rail and is IP20 rated for an enclosed board. Tesla rates the mechanism at 10,000 mechanical and 4,000 electrical operations, covering normal switching and periodic testing across the life of a board. The device is built to IEC/EN 60898 under approval V08030 and supplied singly, in boxes of 6 and cartons of 60.

Q: Is the Tesla MCB2P50 a single or double pole breaker?
A: It is two pole. Both conductors are broken together on a trip or when switched by hand, so the circuit is fully disconnected rather than left half live.

Q: What breaking capacity does the 50 amp model have?
A: 6 kA, that is 6000 A, the same figure across the whole HPC2 range. Tesla positions the range at commercial, domestic and industrial applications.

Q: How much cable will the terminals take at 50 amps?
A: The pillar terminals with clamp accept rigid conductor up to 25 mm². The breaker is two modules wide on DIN rail, IP20 rated and built to IEC/EN 60898.
