Description
Two pole 40 amp protection, proven 6 kA core.
Heavier final subcircuits need protection that breaks both conductors together. The Tesla MCB2P40 is a two pole 40 amp C curve miniature circuit breaker rated at 6 kA, built on the HPC2 series with pillar terminals taking rigid conductor to 25 mm² across two DIN modules, IP20 rated to IEC/EN 60898.

Why Two Pole at 40 Amps
A two pole breaker switches both conductors at once. When it trips, or when it is opened by hand, both poles break together, so the circuit is fully disconnected rather than left with one conductor live.
That full disconnection is why two pole devices are specified where a circuit must be positively isolated for work, or where both conductors should break together on a fault. At 40 amps the breaker sits on one of the heavier final circuits in a board, which is where positive isolation earns its keep.
C Curve and the 6 kA Rating
The C curve tripping characteristic sits between B and D. It tolerates the brief inrush many loads draw when switched on, while still clearing a sustained overload or a short circuit. The bi-metal thermal element handles the overload side, heating and bending in proportion to the current, so a small overload trips slowly and a large one trips faster.
The 6 kA breaking capacity is the largest fault current the device can interrupt safely. Tesla positions the HPC2 range at commercial, domestic and industrial applications, and the same 6000 A figure applies from 10 A to 63 A. Breaking capacity follows the prospective fault current at the board, not the size of the load.
Terminals, Mounting and Life
The pillar terminals clamp rigid conductor up to 25 mm². On a 40 amp circuit that headroom matters, because the cable landing in the breaker is heavier than a small final subcircuit brings in, and the terminal takes it without an interposing connection. The clamp bears on the conductor rather than the screw thread, so contact pressure stays even.
The body takes two modules on standard DIN rail and carries an IP20 rating, suiting it to an enclosed board. Tesla rates the mechanism at 10,000 mechanical operations and 4,000 electrical operations, reflecting normal switching and periodic testing across the working life of a board. The unit is built to IEC/EN 60898 under approval V08030 and supplied singly, in boxes of 6 and cartons of 60.
Q: How many poles does the Tesla MCB2P40 switch?
A: Two. It breaks both conductors together on a trip or when switched by hand, giving full disconnection rather than breaking one pole only.
Q: What is the breaking capacity of the Tesla MCB2P40?
A: It is rated at 6 kA, that is 6000 A. Tesla positions the HPC2 6 kA range for commercial, domestic and industrial applications.
Q: What cable size do the terminals take on the 40 amp model?
A: The pillar terminals with clamp accept rigid conductor up to 25 mm². The breaker takes two modules on DIN rail, is IP20 rated and is designed to IEC/EN 60898.
