Where the RCL50 Crimp Link Is Used
A compression crimp link joins two conductor ends together — the conductors are inserted from each end of the link body and a compression crimp tool closes the barrel around both conductors, making a permanent, mechanically secure, low-resistance electrical joint. The crimp link is the correct method for extending a conductor run, jointing cables in a junction box or enclosure, or connecting two cable ends where a screw terminal or connector block is not appropriate or practical.
The RCL50 is sized for 50mm² conductor — a heavy cable size used in Australian commercial and industrial electrical installations for large sub-main feeds, main switchboard incoming cables, large three-phase motor and plant circuits, and high-current distribution runs where 35mm² conductors are insufficient for the current demand. At 50mm², the conductor is in heavy commercial and industrial territory — typically single-core cables used for main distribution switchboard feeds, large motor starters, and heavy current sub-mains in commercial buildings and industrial facilities. The tinned copper construction combines the excellent conductivity of annealed copper with a tin electroplated surface that resists oxidation and maintains a clean, low-resistance contact surface over the life of the joint. The single crimp is applied with a K19 crimping die using a standard compression crimp tool.
Crimp links in the RCL range are available in sizes from 1.5mm² through to 70mm² — covering the full range of common cable conductor sizes used in Australian electrical installations.
Q: What is the difference between a crimp link and a crimp lug?
A: A crimp link (RCL50) joins two conductor ends together — it has an open barrel at both ends, one for each conductor. A crimp lug terminates a single conductor to a bolted connection point — it has one barrel end and one lug or ring end. Use a crimp link for conductor-to-conductor joints; use a crimp lug for conductor-to-terminal connections.
Q: What crimping tool and die is required for the RCL50?
A: The RCL50 requires a K19 crimping die with a standard compression crimp tool. Confirm your crimp tool is rated for 50mm² copper conductors before use.
Q: Is the RCL50 sold individually or in a bag?
A: The RCL50 is sold individually.
