About Heat Shrink Tubing — 2:1 Polyolefin

Polyolefin heat shrink tubing is the most widely used heat shrink material in electrical, automotive, marine, and industrial wiring — it is flexible, flame retardant, and resistant to moisture, oils, and a wide range of chemicals. The 2:1 shrink ratio means the tube shrinks to approximately half its supplied diameter when heated — a 50.0mm supplied I.D. tube recovers to approximately 25.0mm minimum recovered I.D., creating a tight, conforming sleeve over the cable or termination.

Heat shrink is applied using a heat gun set to the correct temperature — applying even heat along the tube causes it to shrink uniformly around the cable or component underneath. The low longitudinal shrink (less than 5%) means the tube retains close to its original 1 metre length after recovery. The HSTL50 is the largest size in the Pacific Components heat shrink tubing range — suits cables, conductors, terminals, connector barrels, and wire bundles up to approximately 50mm OD. Suited to very large multicore and armoured cables, heavy battery and welding cables, large cable gland and conduit entries, lug and crimp protection on high-current connections in marine, solar, mining, and heavy industrial electrical installations.

Multiple colours are available to allow colour coding by circuit, polarity, phase, or system — consistent with standard wiring colour conventions. All colours carry the same polyolefin specification, 2:1 shrink ratio, and 600V rating.

Q: What cable OD does the HSTL50 suit?
A: The HSTL50 has a supplied I.D. of 50.0mm and suits cables and conductors up to approximately 50mm OD. With a 2:1 shrink ratio, the recovered I.D. is approximately 25.0mm minimum.

Q: What temperature is required to shrink the HSTL50?
A: The HSTL50 begins to shrink at 70°C and is fully recovered at 125°C. A standard heat gun is suitable.

Q: What colours are available in the 50mm size?
A: Black, Red, White, Blue, Green/Yellow, Green, Clear, and Yellow. Select the required colour using the variant selector below.

Q: What is the voltage rating of the HSTL50?
A: The HSTL50 is rated at 600V continuous.

Q: How long is each piece?
A: Each piece is 1 metre in length.
