About the Tesla Large Dolly SMLDN Mechanism

The Tesla Large Dolly switch system uses 35mm mechanisms — larger than the standard 25mm mechanisms used in conventional switch plates — to drive the oversized XL dolly actuator that characterises the Large Dolly range. The SMLDN is the standard single-pole mechanism: it latches on when pressed and off when pressed again, with a loop terminal that allows the active conductor from the incoming cable to be looped through to supply the next switch in the circuit. This is the correct mechanism for standard one-location lighting circuit switching.

The SMLDN 16A rating covers the full range of standard lighting and general purpose circuit loads used in residential and commercial electrical installations. Being compliant with both AS/NZS 3100 (general requirements for electrical equipment) and AS/NZS 3133 (approval and test specification for switches for household and similar fixed electrical installations), the SMLDN meets the standards required for Australian electrical installations.

The Tesla Large Dolly mechanism range has two types — the SMLDN (standard single-pole, this product) and the 2XSMLDN (intermediate/two-way, for controlling a light from two separate switch locations). Both are 16A, 35mm, and suit the same Tesla Large Dolly plates. The correct mechanism type depends on the wiring arrangement required for each circuit.
