How the Tesla Classic Series Grid Plate Works

The Tesla Classic Series uses a two-part system: a grid plate (the base frame that fixes to the wall and holds the switch mechanisms) and a cover plate (the decorative outer panel that snaps over the grid to give the finished look). This SW1PL product is the grid plate and cover assembly — you also need to purchase the appropriate switch mechanism(s) separately to complete the installation. The grid accepts standard Tesla Classic Series flush switch mechanisms which click in from the front.

One of the practical advantages of the grid-and-cover design is that the cover plate is fully removable without disturbing the wiring or the mechanism. This is particularly useful for painting — the cover can be removed before painting, the wall painted right up to the grid edge, and the cover refitted once the paint is dry. No need to mask the plate or touch it up afterwards.

The SW1PL is the 1 gang version, accepting a single switch mechanism. The same plate footprint (74mm x 116mm, 84mm mounting centres) is shared across the entire SW range from 1 to 6 gang — only the number of mechanism openings in the grid changes.
