Motor and transformer loads pull a heavy surge as they energise, and a standard breaker can read that surge as a fault. The Tesla TMCB3P63D is a three pole 63 A miniature circuit breaker with a D tripping characteristic, holding through inrush while still clearing overloads and short circuits.

Why the D Curve Matters
A tripping curve describes how quickly a breaker responds to current above its rating. The D characteristic tolerates a higher multiple of rated current before the magnetic trip acts, so a starting surge passes through instead of dropping the circuit. Tesla supplies this HPC2 Series device to GTS under a motor start description, and the D characteristic is the reason it carries that description rather than the standard one.
The thermal side is unchanged. A bi-metal element still responds to sustained overload, so a circuit drawing above 63 A for an extended period is disconnected. Short circuit protection is retained, with 6000 A of breaking capacity. The D characteristic buys time during starting. It does not give a circuit permission to run overloaded, and it does not change the rated current the device is sized to carry.
Three Pole Switching at 63 Amps
All three phases are linked to a single toggle, so a fault on any of the three disconnects the set together rather than leaving a load running on the remaining two. At 415V and 63 A this is the largest device in the Tesla three pole D curve family, which makes it the natural choice where a three phase circuit sits at the top of what the HPC2 Series covers.
The body occupies 3 modules on a switchboard. Pillar terminals with clamps accept rigid conductor up to 25mm2, matching the cable sizes that turn up on circuits at this rating. IP20 applies to the device itself, so it belongs inside an enclosure or switchboard rather than in an exposed position.
Built to the Standard
The HPC2 Series is manufactured to IEC/EN60898 and carries approval number V08030. Rated life is 10000 mechanical cycles and 4000 electrical cycles. Tesla supplies the three pole D curve range at 10, 16, 20, 25, 32, 40, 50 and 63 A, so a board can be populated across ratings with matched devices sharing the same footprint, terminal arrangement and tripping characteristic.
