Why Two Poles Earn Their Board Space

A two pole breaker opens both of its connected conductors together rather than leaving one of them live. On a switchboard that matters when an electrician needs the downstream circuit properly dead before working on it. The trade-off is width. This device occupies two modules on the rail, twice the space of the single pole equivalent, so count that into the board schedule before you order. Tesla dimensions the HPC2 range in modules, one, two or three by pole count, so board space reads straight off the part number.

Why the C Curve

C curve tripping sits between the quick B curve and the slower D curve. It tolerates the brief inrush drawn at switch-on by lighting circuits, small transformers and switch-mode supplies, then still trips on a genuine overload or short circuit. Tesla publishes B, C and D curve characteristics across the HPC2 range and describes the C curve as suiting most applications, which is why it is the usual pick for general distribution work. Where a load needs a higher magnetic threshold again, Tesla lists separate D curve part numbers rather than offering an adjustment on this device.
