Description

Tesla TMS1P63. 1 Pole 63A Main Switch Isolator. 240V. 10kA. DIN Rail. Red Lever.

The Tesla TMS1P63 is a 1 pole 63A main switch isolator — a DIN rail mounted manual isolation switch for disconnecting the main supply to a switchboard or sub-distribution board. The highly visible red lever on the front face provides a clear ON/OFF indication and allows quick identification and operation when isolation of supply is required. Tunnel terminals allow downstream and upstream cable connection. Rated 240/415V, 10kA short circuit current, IEC 60947-3 compliant. Single module (18mm wide). Sold individually.

  • Tesla TMS Series — TMS1P63 Main Switch Isolator
  • 1 pole — single phase isolation
  • 63A rated current
  • Rated voltage: 240/415V AC
  • Conditioned short circuit current (Iq): 10kA
  • Red lever — highly visible ON/OFF toggle on front face
  • Manual operation — quick identification and isolation in emergencies
  • Downstream and upstream connection by tunnel terminals

What the Tesla TMS1P63 Main Switch Isolator Does

A main switch isolator provides a single accessible point to manually disconnect and isolate the main electrical supply to a switchboard, sub-board, or piece of equipment. Unlike a circuit breaker, a main switch isolator does not provide overcurrent or fault protection — its function is purely to provide a visible, lockable isolation point that allows safe working on downstream circuits during maintenance, testing, or emergency situations. The highly visible red lever is a regulatory requirement for main switches in switchboards — it must be clearly identifiable so that supply can be quickly disconnected in an emergency without searching for which device is the main supply switch.

The TMS1P63 is the 63A single pole version — suited to single phase sub-distribution boards, residential main switchboards where the supply current is 63A or below, and commercial and light industrial sub-board installations. The tunnel terminals allow connection from both the upstream (incoming supply) and downstream (outgoing load) sides, giving installation flexibility for different cable routing arrangements within the switchboard.

The single module (18mm) DIN rail footprint keeps the main switch compact within the switchboard — the TMS1P63 occupies one standard 18mm DIN rail position alongside circuit breakers and other protective devices. The Tesla TMS range covers 1 pole 63A (TMS1P63), 1 pole 100A (TMS1P100), and 3 pole 100A (TMS3P100) for single phase and three phase applications.

Q: What is the difference between a main switch isolator and a circuit breaker?
A: A main switch isolator (like the TMS1P63) provides a means to manually disconnect the supply — it has no overcurrent tripping function and will not trip on overload or fault current. A circuit breaker provides both switching and overcurrent/fault protection, tripping automatically on overload or short circuit. Main switch isolators are installed where a dedicated, clearly identifiable isolation point is required for the main supply, typically alongside or upstream of the circuit breakers that protect individual circuits.

Q: Why is the lever red on the TMS1P63?
A: The red lever is the standard colour code for main switch isolators and isolating devices in electrical switchboards — it provides immediate visual identification of the main supply isolation point. In an emergency, the red lever allows the supply to be quickly located and disconnected without having to identify individual circuit breakers.

Q: What is the 10kA short circuit rating on the TMS1P63?
A: The 10kA conditioned short circuit current (Iq) rating means the TMS1P63 can safely withstand and interrupt a short circuit fault current up to 10kA — the standard fault current level specified for residential and light commercial switchboard applications in Australia. This ensures the device remains safe and functional under fault conditions typical of the supply network it is connected to.
