The JB420C is the 20mm four way shallow junction box — the cross-junction box used wherever four conduit runs meet at a single point. In surface-mounted conduit installations, four-way junctions occur at distribution hubs where a main conduit run intersects with branches going in multiple directions — for example at a central point on a wall or ceiling where conduits run left, right, up, and down from the same junction, distributing circuits to multiple locations in a building.

The four conduit entry positions on the round junction box body are positioned at 90 degrees to each other around the circumference of the box, providing the four entry points needed for a cross junction layout. Not all four entries need to be used — the JB420C can also be used as a 3 way (T-junction) or 2 way junction by leaving one or two entry positions unused and capped, giving it flexibility when the correct number-of-ways box is unavailable or where a future additional conduit connection may be needed.
