Description

Purpose-built protection for direct current circuits

A standard AC miniature circuit breaker cannot be relied on to interrupt a DC fault. The Schneider A9N61526 is engineered specifically for direct current, clearing 6 kA at 500 V DC across two protected poles in a 36 mm DIN-rail footprint.

Key Features

  • Schneider Electric Acti9 C60H-DC, catalogue number A9N61526
  • Rated current (In) 6 A at 25 °C, C tripping curve
  • 2 poles, 2 protected poles, DC network only
  • Rated operational and insulation voltage 500 V DC
  • Breaking capacity 6 kA at 500 V DC, 10 kA at 440 V DC, 20 kA at 220 V and 250 V DC (IEC/EN 60947-2)
  • Thermal-magnetic trip unit, magnetic tripping at 8.5 In ±20%
  • Utilisation category A; suitable for isolation to IEC/EN 60947-2
  • Contact position indicator with ON/OFF signalling
  • 36 mm wide (4 x 9 mm pitches) on 35 mm symmetrical DIN rail
  • Terminals accept rigid cable 2.5 to 25 mm², tightened to 2.5 N.m
  • Comb busbar compatible, standard top or bottom connection
  • Padlockable in the O (off) position
  • 20,000 mechanical operations; total power loss 5.4 W

Why a DC-Rated Breaker Matters

Direct current has no natural zero crossing, so a fault arc does not self-extinguish the way it does on AC. Devices intended for DC service use a different arc-quenching design, and the C60H-DC is rated and tested on that basis to IEC/EN 60947-2. Schneider also specifies that connection polarity, marked on the front, must be observed. Reversing it can create a fire hazard.

Breaking capacity also scales with system voltage: 6 kA at the full 500 V DC rating, 10 kA at 440 V DC, and 20 kA at 220 V and 250 V DC. Match the figure to your actual system voltage when checking prospective fault current.

Typical Applications

Schneider positions the C60H-DC range for direct current circuits in industrial control and automation, transport, and renewable energy, under a distribution application. It combines short-circuit and overload protection with control and isolation in one module, suiting DC boards where separate isolation hardware would otherwise be needed.

Switchboard Fit and Installation

At 4 x 9 mm pitches the device occupies 36 mm of rail, the equivalent of two standard 18 mm modules, and clips to 35 mm symmetrical DIN rail in any orientation. It accepts standard comb busbar top or bottom. Power terminals take rigid conductors from 2.5 to 25 mm², or flexible conductors from 2.5 to 16 mm² with an end piece, at 2.5 N.m. C60 auxiliaries and accessories fit, mounting to the left of the breaker within a 54 mm width.

Ratings and Temperature

The 6 A rating is referenced to 25 °C, with an operating range of -25 °C to 70 °C. Schneider publishes a derating table for other ambients and advises a reduction coefficient of around 0.8 where several devices run side by side in a small enclosure. Size on the ambient inside the board, not the room.

Is the Schneider A9N61526 suitable for AC circuits?
No. The A9N61526 has a DC network type and is rated 500 V DC only. Use an AC-rated miniature circuit breaker for alternating current circuits.

Does the A9N61526 have to be connected with correct polarity?
Yes. Schneider marks the connection polarity on the front panel and states it must be observed. Incorrect polarity can lead to a fire hazard or serious injury.

How much switchboard space does the A9N61526 take up?
It is 4 x 9 mm pitches wide, or 36 mm in total, which is two standard modules on 35 mm symmetrical DIN rail.
