Why the PB Plaster Bracket Is the Right Fix for Rendered and Masonry Walls

Standard stud brackets are designed for timber frame walls — they clip onto a stud or noggin and the plate screws directly to them. In rendered plaster, brick, and masonry walls there is no stud to clip to, and the wall surface itself needs to provide the mounting point. The PB plaster bracket solves this by sitting behind the wall plate in the cutout, spreading the load across a wider area of the plaster or render and providing the 84mm fixing centres needed for the plate screws to land accurately. It is the correct bracket specification for rendered and masonry wall installations where a stud bracket is not appropriate.

The galvanised steel construction provides the rigidity and corrosion resistance needed behind a plaster wall — far more durable than a plastic alternative in a location that is not accessible once the plate is installed. At just 3mm deep, the PB adds minimal depth behind the plate while providing a solid, accurate mounting point. The W76 x H55mm cutout aligns with the standard GPO wall box opening, and the 152 x 152mm overall footprint distributes the fixing load effectively across the plaster surface.

The PB supports both horizontal and vertical mounting positions, making it suitable across the full range of switch and outlet orientations used in Australian installations. It suits all standard size GPO and wall plates with 84mm fixing centres. Sold individually — specify the quantity needed for the installation.

Q: When should I use a plaster bracket instead of a stud bracket?
A: A plaster bracket is used when flush mounting a switch or power point in a rendered plaster, brick, or masonry wall where there is no timber stud or noggin to clip a standard stud bracket onto. The plaster bracket sits behind the wall plate in the cutout and provides the fixing points needed in solid wall construction.

Q: What wall plates is the Transco PB plaster bracket compatible with?
A: The PB suits all standard size Australian GPO and wall plates with 84mm fixing centres, including Transco Powerclip series plates and equivalent standard-size plates from other manufacturers.

Q: Can the Transco PB bracket be mounted both horizontally and vertically?
A: Yes. The PB supports both horizontal and vertical mounting positions, giving full flexibility to suit the orientation of the switch or power point being installed.
