The Smallest Rating, the Same Fault Capacity

A 6 amp breaker protects the lightest circuits on a board, but the fault level it may have to interrupt has nothing to do with how little that circuit draws. Prospective short circuit current is set by the supply, not the load, so a small final subcircuit close to a large transformer can see the same fault energy as a heavy one. Tesla rates every device in this range at 10kA, and states Icn = Ics, meaning the rated ultimate and rated service breaking capacities are the same number rather than the device being derated for repeat duty.

Energy Limiting Class 3 describes how sharply the device cuts let-through energy during a short circuit. It is the highest classification the standard defines, and on a 6 amp circuit feeding small or sensitive equipment that limiting behaviour is where the value sits.

Terminals, Torque and Termination

Terminals are pillar type and accept cable termination up to 25mm², which is generous for a 6 amp device and means the same termination discipline applies across every rating in the range. Tesla specifies a screw connector torque of 2.5Nm. Torquing to the published figure matters more than it looks: undertightened pillar terminals are a common source of heating at the connection, and overtightening damages the clamp.

Rated impulse withstand voltage is 4kV, and the device carries contact position indication so the true state of the contacts can be read rather than inferred from the toggle.

Mounting, Ingress and Service Life

Tesla specifies both DIN and chassis mount for this range, so it suits standard rail boards and fixed panel work alike. The single pole body measures 17.8mm wide and 83mm high, so it occupies one standard module position. Ingress protection is IP20, appropriate for installation inside an enclosure.

Service life is quoted at 10,000 electrical cycles and 20,000 mechanical cycles, and the range is built to AS/NZS 60898.1. Supply is a box of 12, carton of 120.
