Description

Three phase protection at the top of the board.

Standard three pole frames stop at 63 amps. The Tesla MCB3P100 carries 100 A across all three poles at 415/440 V with a 10 kA rated short-circuit capacity, and lands 35 mm2 flexible conductor in lift-up terminals that lock every strand.

Read the Ics Figure Before You Specify

The headline rating needs reading in two parts. Tesla publishes a rated short-circuit capacity of 10,000 A for the three pole range, and a rated service capacity of 7,500 A alongside it.

Icn is what the device can interrupt once. Ics is what it can interrupt and still return to normal duty afterwards. At 75 percent of Icn, the service figure is the one to specify against for anything expected to keep working after a fault. Treat a full 10 kA event as grounds for replacement. Both figures come from Tesla's own three pole 10 kA data, not from the smaller frame ranges.

Terminals Built for 100 Amp Cable

At 100 amps across three phases the terminations are the hard part, and Tesla has sized the connection for it. Capacity runs to 35 mm2 of flexible conductor per pole through a pillar terminal with clamp, the same figure Tesla specifies across the 80, 100 and 125 amp models in this range.

The lift-up design captures every strand rather than letting some splay around the clamp face. Tesla calls these no hot spot terminals for that reason. On heavy three phase terminations a poor connection is a far more common failure than the breaker itself, and it shows up later as heat discolouration on the insulation.

Board Space and Curve Selection

Modular spacing is 81 mm for the three pole body, so it needs a wider gap than a standard three module device. Confirm the space before ordering. Fast closure is a listed feature of the mechanism, so the contacts are driven closed positively rather than at the speed of the toggle.

The C curve rides through the brief inrush drawn by motors, transformers and switch-mode supplies at energisation while still clearing a genuine short circuit quickly. Tesla lists the 10 kA range as suited to commercial, domestic and industrial applications.

Q: What is the breaking capacity of the Tesla MCB3P100?
A: Tesla publishes a rated short-circuit capacity (Icn) of 10,000 A and a rated service short-circuit capacity (Ics) of 7,500 A, with the breaking capacity stated as 10 kA conforming to IEC 60947-2. Specify against 7,500 A where the breaker must stay in service after a fault.

Q: What voltage is the Tesla MCB3P100 rated for?
A: Tesla rates the three pole 10 kA range at AC 415/440 V, 50/60 Hz, on an AC network. It is a three pole device, so all three phases are broken together.

Q: How much board width does the Tesla MCB3P100 take up?
A: Modular spacing is 81 mm for the three pole body. Terminals accept up to 35 mm2 of flexible conductor, and the breaker is supplied singly in a carton of four.
