Where the C40 Sits in a Three Phase Board

Terminals sized for the cable a 40 amp circuit actually needs. Terminal capacity is published at cables up to 25mm2. On a heavier three phase run that headroom matters, because conductor size climbs with both current and route length, and a device whose terminals cap out early forces a junction or a change of switchgear. With 25mm2 available at the device, the cable can be sized for the circuit rather than trimmed to suit the switchgear, and the same terminal capacity applies right across the LNL35 range from the smallest rating to the largest.

A Type detection, not AC only. The residual current element is published as A Type. That characteristic covers pulsating DC residual currents as well as alternating ones. Three phase boards feed a growing share of electronically controlled plant, and the leakage signature from rectified and switched supplies does not always look like a clean sine wave to an AC only device. The relevant sensitivity figure is published across the LNL35 range rather than against each code, which is worth confirming at order time.

Endurance and let-through, in numbers. Tesla publishes 10,000 electrical operations and 30,000 mechanical operations for this range, so the device is rated for repeated switching rather than fault duty alone. Energy limiting class 3 describes how tightly let-through energy is held while a short circuit is being cleared. Alongside the 10kA short circuit breaking capacity sits a 2000A rated residual making and breaking capacity, which is the figure that applies when the residual current element does the clearing.

Fits the panels you already work in. The body is 54mm deep and clips to standard 35mm DIN rail, and the neutral comes out on an 80cm lead so it can reach a bar anywhere in the enclosure. Electrically it is an electronic type device at 400/415V AC and 50/60Hz, built to IEC/EN AS/NZS 61009-1, IEC 61009-2-2 and AS/NZS 61009.1. Packed one per box and twenty per outer carton.
