Where the IL15 Is the Right Specification for Caravan and RV Power Connections

The IL15 steps up from the standard 10A IL10 to a 15A rating — making it the correct specification for caravan parks, campgrounds, and powered sites where a 15A mains supply is available at the power post. The 15A inlet allows the vehicle's onboard electrical system to draw more sustained current than a 10A inlet can handle, which is particularly relevant for larger caravans and motorhomes with multiple high-draw appliances running simultaneously — reverse cycle air conditioning, electric hot water, and other equipment that pushes the limits of a 10A supply.

IP54 protection means the IL15 is dust protected and resistant to water splashing from any direction — appropriate for an exterior-mounted fitting on a vehicle used across Australian caravan parks, campgrounds, and off-road sites in all weather conditions. The complete polycarbonate housing encloses the connection when in use, and the recess mount profile keeps the inlet low-profile against the vehicle exterior. The mounting centres (70 x 54mm) and overall dimensions (W80 x L110 x D52mm) are identical to the IL10, making the IL15 a direct upgrade in a the same recess opening.

The screwing copper ferrule connector provides a secure, mechanically reliable connection to the onboard wiring. The IL15 is the 15A white variant in the Transco Explorer power inlet range. Also available in 10A white (IL10), 10A black (IL10/B), and 15A black (IL15/B) for installations where a different amp rating or colour finish is required.

Q: What is the difference between the IL10 and the IL15?
A: The IL10 and IL15 are identical in IP rating, construction, dimensions, and mounting centres. The key difference is the current rating — the IL10 is rated at 10A and the IL15 is rated at 15A. Choose the IL15 for caravan parks and sites where a 15A mains supply is available and a higher sustained current draw is required from the onboard electrical system.

Q: Is the Transco IL15 suitable for sites where only a 10A supply is available?
A: The IL15 can be used on a 10A supply — the inlet rating determines the maximum current that can safely flow through the inlet, not the site supply rating. However if the site supply is limited to 10A, the IL10 is the appropriate specification. The IL15 is the correct choice where a 15A supply is available and a higher current draw from the vehicle is anticipated.

Q: What IP rating does the Transco IL15 power inlet carry?
A: The IL15 carries an IP54 rating — dust protected (first digit 5) and protected against water splashing from any direction (second digit 4). This makes it suitable for exterior mounting on caravans, motorhomes, and recreational vehicles exposed to rain and weather during use and transport.
