Hager CDA440T 4-pole 40A 30mA Type A RCCB. 3P+N earth-leakage protection, 230/400V, 4-module DIN rail, IP20.
Electrotraders USPs
Description
40A three-phase earth-leakage protection that doesn't derate — even at 70°C.
The Hager CDA440T is a 4-pole (3P+N) Type A RCCB rated 40A at 30mA — built to detect both AC and pulsating DC residual fault currents. Where a standard Type AC unit goes blind on the earth leakage that inverters, EV chargers, and switched-mode power supplies generate, the CDA440T catches it. And unlike many competing 4-pole RCCBs, it carries its full 40A rating all the way to 70°C ambient — no derating, no surprises in a hot switchboard cabinet.
Key Features
- 4-pole (3P+N) — protects all three phases plus neutral in a 400V three-phase circuit
- 40A rated current — full 40A from -25°C all the way to +70°C ambient, verified OEM data
- 30mA trip sensitivity — standard personal-protection threshold per AS/NZS 3000
- Type A detection — senses AC and pulsating DC residual fault currents
- 230/400V AC, 50Hz — rated insulation voltage 500V, impulse withstand 4kV, max operating voltage 440V
- 6kA conditional short-circuit current (Inc) per EN 61008-1 with suitable upstream MCB
- 1.50kA rated breaking/opening capacity (Idm)
- 4-module width (70mm W × 83mm H × 70mm D) — standard 35mm DIN rail mount
- Screw terminals top, biconnect terminals bottom — 1–25mm² rigid / 1–16mm² flexible, 2.8Nm torque
- 2,000 electrical operations / 4,000 mechanical operations endurance rating
- Rated for use up to 2,000m altitude
- IP20 ingress protection — for installation inside an enclosed switchboard
- RoHS compliant; REACh declaration available from Hager
- 2-year manufacturer warranty

The Right Fit for Most Three-Phase Sub-Boards
The 40A rating covers the majority of three-phase residential sub-boards and light commercial distribution boards — air conditioning distribution boards, small machinery feeds, EV charger DBs, and solar PV consumer-side incomer protection. Where the circuit sits at or below 40A and AS/NZS 3000 mandates RCD protection, the CDA440T is the practical, code-compliant choice. It shares the same 4-module footprint as the 63A CDA463T, so panel designers can mix both ratings in the same enclosure without changing the board layout.
No Derating — What You Design for Is What You Get in the Field
Many 4-pole RCCBs begin reducing their rated current above 40°C — a real constraint in top-floor plant rooms, summer switchboard cabinets, and indoor DBs without active ventilation. The CDA440T is confirmed flat at 40A across every temperature step from -25°C to +70°C, verified directly from the Hager AU datasheet. The margin you design on paper is the margin you get on site, every time.
Wiring That Works for the Sparky on the Day
The biconnect bottom terminals and screw top terminals keep wiring options open — both accept rigid conductors up to 25mm² and flexible conductors up to 16mm², with a consistent 2.8Nm torque at both ends. No special tooling, no surprises at commissioning. Optional accessories including shunt trip, under-voltage release, padlockable locking kit, and auxiliary contact block are available for remotely-operated or monitored boards.
Q: Does the Hager CDA440T provide overload and short-circuit protection as well as earth-leakage protection?
A: No. The CDA440T is an RCCB — it provides earth-leakage (residual current) protection only. A separate upstream MCB or fuse is required for overload and short-circuit protection. The 6kA conditional short-circuit rating (Inc) applies when a suitable upstream protective device is in place.
Q: Is the Hager CDA440T suitable for EV charger circuits in Australia?
A: Yes. EV charger manufacturers and AS/NZS 3000:2018 specify Type A RCDs as the minimum requirement for EV charger circuits, as the charger's rectifier can generate pulsating DC fault currents that a Type AC device will not detect. The CDA440T's Type A sensing makes it the correct and compliant choice for EV charger distribution board feeds up to 40A.
Q: What is the difference between the Hager CDA440T and the CDA463T?
A: Both are 4-pole (3P+N) Type A RCCBs from the same CDA series with identical dimensions, terminal types, and compatible accessories. The CDA440T is rated 40A and carries that full rating with no derating across the entire -25°C to +70°C range. The CDA463T is rated 63A but derates progressively above 40°C ambient. Choose the CDA440T for circuits at or below 40A; step up to the CDA463T for higher-current main incomers.
NOTE: The CDA440T is an RCCB providing earth-leakage protection only — it does not provide overcurrent or short-circuit protection. A separate upstream MCB or fuse is required. Installation must be carried out by a licensed electrician in accordance with AS/NZS 3000.
