Description

Hager CDA440T - RCCB 4 Pole 40A 30mA Type A Residual Current Circuit Breaker. Reliable earth-leakage protection for three-phase plus neutral (3P+N) circuits - rated 40A with 30mA sensitivity, detecting AC and pulsating DC fault currents to safeguard people and equipment. Suits 230/400V AC, 50Hz systems with 6kA conditional short-circuit rating and 1.5kA breaking capacity, on a 4-module DIN rail with IP20 ingress protection and 4kV impulse withstand. The CDA440T is part of Hager's proven CDA series of Type A RCCBs. Type A units detect both AC and pulsating DC residual fault currents - making them the right choice for modern installations with electronic loads such as variable-speed drives, switched-mode power supplies, EV chargers, induction cooktops, and any equipment with rectifier circuits. Standard Type AC RCCBs only detect AC fault currents and can miss DC components that downstream electronics generate. Screw and biconnect terminals accept conductors up to 25 mm2 rigid or 16 mm2 flexible, simplifying wiring on tight panel layouts.

The 40A rating suits the majority of three-phase residential sub-boards and light-commercial DBs - step up to the CDA463T (63A) for larger main-incomer protection or higher-current feeds.

Why choose Type A over Type AC? AS/NZS 3000:2018 Section 2.6 and increasingly the major appliance datasheets call for Type A RCDs wherever an electronic load with a rectifier may inject pulsating DC into the earth path. Inverter aircon, EV chargers, induction cooktops, modern washing machines, computer power supplies, and LED dimmer circuits can all generate pulsating DC fault currents that a Type AC RCCB will not detect. The CDA440T's Type A sensing element catches both - covering modern installs without the cost of a Type B unit.

Required accessories you may need:

• An upstream MCB rated 40A or higher to provide the conditional short-circuit protection (the CDA440T itself does not provide overcurrent protection).

NOTE: An RCCB protects against earth leakage only. It must be combined with a separate MCB or fuse upstream for short-circuit and overload protection. Installation by a licensed electrician is required, in accordance with AS/NZS 3000.
