About Bootlace Ferrules — Why Use Them

A bootlace ferrule (also called a pin ferrule or end sleeve) is crimped onto the end of a stranded conductor before insertion into a screw terminal block. Without a ferrule, the individual strands of a stranded conductor can splay, break off, or work loose from a screw terminal over time — reducing contact reliability and creating the risk of stray strands causing short circuits or poor connections. The crimped ferrule consolidates all conductor strands into a single rigid pin that inserts cleanly and securely into the terminal, and stays secure under vibration and repeated terminal cycling.

At 70.0mm², the BL700 is suited to the heaviest power wiring applications — main distribution board connections, large motor terminations, heavy sub-main and main cabling, generator and transformer terminals, and industrial power distribution terminals. A heavy duty ratchet crimping tool with a die set accommodating 70.0mm² ferrules is required for correct crimping. The BL700 uses halogen free, flame retardant nylon insulation — meeting the increasing requirement for halogen free materials in modern installations.

Yellow is the standard collar colour for 70.0mm² ferrules within the DIN 46228/4 colour coding system. The BL700 conforms to DIN 46228/4 and is supplied by Pacific Components — an Australian distributor of quality electrical components. Note: tin plated copper bootlace ferrules are not specifically designed for use with aluminium cables and should only be used at the installer's discretion.

Q: What wire size does the BL700 suit?
A: The BL700 suits 70.0mm² stranded conductors — used in main distribution boards, large motor terminations, heavy sub-main and main cabling, and industrial power distribution.

Q: What is the pin length of the BL700?
A: The BL700 has a 20mm pin length — suited to the deep DIN rail screw terminal blocks typically used with 70.0mm² cable.

Q: Is the BL700 halogen free?
A: Yes — the BL700 uses halogen free, flame retardant nylon insulation. It conforms to RoHS and REACH.

Q: What tool is required to crimp the BL700?
A: A heavy duty bootlace ferrule ratchet crimping tool is required. The tool must have a die set that accommodates 70.0mm² ferrules.

Q: Can the BL700 be used with aluminium cables?
A: Tin plated copper bootlace ferrules are not specifically designed for aluminium cables and should only be used at the installer's discretion.

Q: How many ferrules are in a pack?
A: The BL700 is sold in a pack of 10 ferrules.
