Description

GCB-140. Manual Reset. 140 Amp. 42V DC Maximum. Type 3 Thermal Circuit Breaker. Surface Mount. Sold Individually.

The GCB-140 is a 140 Amp Type 3 manual reset circuit breaker rated to 42V DC maximum (30V DC UL approved) — suited to 12V and 24V DC automotive, marine, caravan, and high-current DC installations. Type 3 manual reset: when a fault trips the breaker, it stays open until the reset button is manually pressed — requiring deliberate operator action to restore power after a fault, rather than automatically retrying. Stud terminal connections. Surface mount bracket. Sold individually.

About the GCB-140 — Manual Reset vs Auto Reset Circuit Breakers

A circuit breaker provides resettable overcurrent protection — unlike a fuse which must be replaced after it blows, a circuit breaker can be reset and returned to service after the overcurrent condition is cleared. The GCB-140 is a Type 3 manual reset breaker — after tripping on an overcurrent condition, the breaker stays open and power remains off until the reset button on the breaker body is deliberately pressed. This requires the operator to physically attend the breaker, investigate the cause of the trip, and make a conscious decision to restore power.

Manual reset (Type 3) is the preferred choice for high-current circuits where automatic power restoration after a fault could cause damage or a safety hazard — main battery feeds, large inverter inputs, solar charge controller outputs, high-current winch circuits, and other very heavy DC loads where a repeated auto-reset cycle could cause overheating or fire. At 140 Amp, the GCB-140 is the highest-rated breaker in the GCB range — suited to the heaviest main feed circuits in Australian automotive, marine, and caravan installations including large inverter protection, main battery to auxiliary battery feeds, and high-current DC distribution points.

Q: What is the difference between Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 circuit breakers?
A: Type 1 (auto reset) automatically resets and retries after tripping. Type 2 (modified reset) trips and stays open until power is cycled off and on. Type 3 (manual reset) trips and stays open until the reset button is manually pressed — the GCB-140 is Type 3. Select the type appropriate for the circuit application.

Q: What is the difference between GCB-100 and GCB-140?
A: Both are Type 3 manual reset surface mount circuit breakers with the same voltage rating and terminal style. The GCB-100 is rated at 100 Amp; the GCB-140 is rated at 140 Amp. Select the rating that matches the maximum continuous current of the circuit being protected.

Q: Why use a manual reset breaker instead of a fuse at 140A?
A: A manual reset breaker can be reset without replacing any component — after identifying and correcting the fault, the breaker is reset with a button press and the circuit is restored. A 140A fuse must be physically replaced after it blows, requiring a spare fuse to be on hand. In remote or off-road applications, a resettable breaker provides faster fault recovery.

Q: Is the GCB-140 sold individually?
A: Yes — the GCB-140 is sold individually.
