About the CB130 — Auto Reset vs Manual Reset Circuit Breakers
A circuit breaker provides resettable overcurrent protection — unlike a fuse which must be replaced after it blows, a circuit breaker can be reset and returned to service after the overcurrent condition is cleared. The CB130 is a Type 1 automatic reset breaker — after tripping on an overcurrent condition, the thermal element cools and the breaker automatically resets and retries the circuit. If the fault persists, the breaker trips again and the cycle continues until the fault is corrected or the power source is disconnected.
The stud terminal connections accept ring terminals and cable lugs — the AUX stud connects to the load side of the circuit and the BAT stud connects to the battery or supply side. The parallel mount bracket allows the breaker to be bolted flat to a panel, bracket, or chassis using two mounting holes — one either side of the breaker body.
Type 1 auto reset is commonly used in automotive, marine, and caravan applications where the circuit must restore automatically once the fault clears — for example, a motor that stalls and draws overcurrent, where the breaker needs to retry once the motor cools or the mechanical obstruction is removed. For circuits where automatic retry is undesirable — such as lighting or control circuits where an uncontrolled restart could cause a hazard — a Type 2 (modified reset) or Type 3 (manual reset) breaker should be specified instead.
Q: What is the difference between Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 circuit breakers?
A: Type 1 (auto reset) automatically resets and retries after tripping — the CB130 is Type 1. Type 2 (modified reset) trips and stays open until the power is cycled off and on. Type 3 (manual reset) trips and stays open until the reset button is manually pressed. Select the type appropriate for the circuit application.
Q: What terminals does the CB130 use?
A: The CB130 uses copper threaded stud terminals — one marked AUX (load side) and one marked BAT (supply/battery side). Connection is made with ring terminals or cable lugs bolted to the studs with the supplied nuts.
Q: Can the CB130 be used in both 12V and 24V systems?
A: Yes — the CB130 is rated for both 12V and 24V DC, making it suitable for 12V automotive and caravan systems as well as 24V truck, bus, and commercial vehicle systems.
Q: Is the CB130 sold individually?
A: Yes — the CB130 is sold individually.
